FCAT

The Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT) is part of Florida’s overall plan to increase student achievement by implementing higher standards. The FCAT, administered to students in Grades 3-11, contains two basic components: criterion-referenced tests (CRT), measuring selected benchmarks in Mathematics, Reading, Science, and Writing from the Sunshine State Standards (SSS); and norm-referenced tests (NRT) in Reading and Mathematics, measuring individual student performance against national norms. There are many ways to prepare and study for the FCAT

Preparing for the FCAT uses pretests, interactive lessons, and posttests to build students’ ability and confidence in test-taking. Based on the Sunshine State Standards, the program includes materials for both the reading and math portions of the FCAT. The three-step diagnostic-prescriptive approach from AGS Globe provides a range of skill-building opportunities. These include teaching, demonstrating, thinking aloud, and motivating students in an encouraging and supportive environment.

The proven three-step formula for success:

Preparing for the FCAT follows this proven three-step formula.

  • Step 1: Pretest. Give the test, score it, then use the diagnostic-prescriptive chart to identify students’ strengths and weaknesses. Focus instruction on the benchmarks where your students need the most assistance.
  • Step 2: Interactive Lessons. These exercises review the academic skills and refine the critical-thinking skills necessary for success on the FCAT. Practice tests at the end of each lesson give students plenty of practice.
  • Step 3: Posttest. Measure outcomes, identify areas that need reteaching.

The pretest, posttests, and related lessons offer opportunities to teach, demonstrate, think aloud, and motivate students in an encouraging and supportive environment
